What does Foundation program mean?

It is a one-year preparatory program that students should undertake before starting their undergraduate education if their high school grade point average is low for the departments they prefer to study at university in England.

In case where UK Universities would not accept students directly to the first year, the Foundation Program, which is a one-year academic preparation course, is recommended for the candidates. While England successfully prepares students for undergraduate education, it is one of the leading countries for Foundation Programs with its many years of experience. Criteria affecting the process; - Your English degree - Your high school GPA - Studies you have done during your high school education related to your preferred field.

With this one-year program offered by many universities in England, students have the chance to increase their basic course knowledge, fill academic gaps, complete the deficiencies in their English, and accelerate the education and cultural adaptation process of this country. Students are admitted to the university when they successfully complete the Foundation year. A minimum IELTS score is required to enter the Foundation Program, which may vary depending on the Universities or the colleges and language schools offering the Foundation program. This IELTS score is required in the range of 4.5-5.5. An academic year of Foundation Programs usually lasts between 30-34 weeks, between September and July.

Undergraduate Degree in the UK

University education in England lasts for an average of three years, excluding medicine, dentistry and architecture departments (5-6 years). Training programs commence at the end of September or the first week in October and ends in June or July. University applications is done through UCAS (The Universities and Colleges Admissions Services). Applications are received in September and close on January 15th. The deadline for applications to the universities of medicine, dentistry and Oxford, Cambridge is 15 October. Turkish students who have sufficient English and A Level and IB diploma grades can apply directly to undergraduate programs of universities

by being exempted from the Foundation year. In the UCAS application system, candidates have the right to choose up to 5 different schools.

Student admission requirements of UK Universities may differ from school to school

and even from department to department. Basically, there are two main criteria; English level and academic

achievement. Considering academic achievement, students with a Turkish High School Diploma GPA of 80% and above have a high chance of being directly accepted to universities. The other criterion, the English level, is required to be in the range of 6.0-6.5 in the IELTS Academic exam.

General application conditions can be listed as follows:
